New Kia Sorento Whitstable, Kent
from £21,595 with KIA's £1,500 customer saving.
The new Kia Sorento is unquestionably amongst class-leaders for luxury, versatility, technology and capability
Slightly longer and lower than the outgoing Kia Sorento, the new model has a sleek, stylish profile more in-keeping with a thoroughly modern, urban SUV, with its longer front overhang, dynamic wedge profile, sharply defined glasshouse and accentuated wheelarches. Sporting the new Kia family grille, robust bumpers and stylish black bezel headlamps, the elegant model is similarly capable both as a 2WD or 4WD vehicle.
The cabin concept focuses on innovation of technology and spaciousness. The tall doors and high seating position make for easy access and excellent all-round visibility, while the ergonomic dashboard and well-laid out instruments and switchgear maximise driver comfort. The main feature of the dash is a stylish centre console and audio system featuring CD/MP3 capability with RDS radio and USB/AUX ports for external MP3 connection.
The high-tech look is followed through to the sporty 3D-style instrument cluster and thick-rimmed steering wheel. Also instrumentation and information displays feature the latest Kia-family red illumination, as showcased on Soul, new cee’d and Venga. For added versatility, the new Sorento is available as either a 5-seat petrol model or 7-seat diesel versions. The third row seats are 50:50 split flat-folding seats which fold easily and directly into the luggage area floor for maximum practicality and space when needed.
The longer bodyshell created for Kia Sorento ensures that cabin space is maximised, with class-leading third row passenger space; whilst the lowered height promotes a more stable ride without sacrificing headroom space. The 7-seat model 3rd row seating is accessed via the 2nd row seating row, which features a double folding entry mechanism.
There are two engines available – 2.4 litre petrol engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. This efficient powertrain is offered as a 2WD 5-seat model only, and delivers 172bhp with 226Nm of torque. Also the 2.2 litre CRDi engine mated to a choice of 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmissions. This advanced powertrain is offered as both 2WD and Intelligent 4WD 7-seat models. Delivering 194bhp with 422Nm of torque, this powerful engine is one of the most efficient engines in its class.
All-new 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions are available on Kia Sorento for the first time. Featuring advanced technologies, the refined transmissions enhance fuel efficiency and driving performance. The state-of-the-art 6-speed automatic is the first in-house transmission to be developed by Kia and is the lightest, most advanced gearbox available in the market. With its smooth and responsive changes, coupled to a sporty manual mode option for a more involved driving experience, it is a particular highlight of the new Sorento and will be a popular choice for customers in this sector.
As with all Kia models, the Kia Sorento benefits from an exceptional range of safety and security features which combine to create a true peace-of-mind package for customers. As such, it has already been awarded the highest Euro NCAP 5* award for its safety package – a feat unmatched by many competitors. All safety features are fitted as standard across the entire range, with no differentiation across trim grades. This is to ensure that the Sorento is designed to meet the highest expectations of today’s safety-conscious drivers.
The usual highlights of ABS with electronic brake force distribution (EBD), 6 airbags with passenger airbag cut-off switch and advanced power steering are offered. In addition, electronic stability control (ESC), incorporating Brake Assist and Traction Control technologies, is standard on every Kia Sorento model to improve stability under heavy braking and restore directional control during a potential skid in hazardous driving conditions.
Also included on this rugged model are Downhill Brake Control (DBC) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) technologies. The DBC assists engine braking to improve directional control during descent on steep or slippery surfaces. Meanwhile the HAC system increases control on steep hills, as well as stopping/starting on slippery surfaces by controlling the brakes.
Kia models are now available with a 7 year/100,000 mile manufacturer warranty and the new Sorento is no exception. The longest warranty offered in Europe, this exceptional guarantee demonstrated the confidence Kia has in the design, build and quality of all its vehicles.
